Frank Folsom Smith

By bgd-bryan /

Since his arrival following graduation from UVA, architect Frank Folsom Smith’s buildings have made an indelible mark on Sarasota’s impressive cityscape. Smith was at the leading edge of retirement center design with Plymouth Harbor, which received the FAAIA Honor Award and the Test of Time Award. He also won the FAAIA Honor Award for his design and development for the clustered community of Sandy Cove on Siesta Key. In the 1980’s, Smith acquired and rehabilitated over 20 downtown Sarasota buildings built in the 1920’s, several of which have achieved listings on the National Register of Historic Places and became known as the Burns Court Historic District. His Conrad Beach development was cited as the community Development of the Year by Coastal Living Magazine.
